Jake on Late Show

Updated with the two clips with Jake from the Late Show with Dave Letterman (courtesy of IHJ)

It’s that time of an actor’s career again: promotion time! It’s even more exciting this year, I’m not sure why. Probably because there’s so much more to look forward to, the promotion for ‘End of Watch’ being just the beginning;  the opening of ‘It There Is’ is in just a few weeks, then there will be ‘An Enemy’ (can’t wait for that!) and probably another film, if Mississippi Grind will be confirmed. Not bad at all.

New York based Dave Letterman’s Late Show is just around the corner for Jake now, so yesterday he and The Beard along with The Slicked Back Hair made their jointed appearance at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

A brief clip for now, the entire show can be seen here (Jake is the first guest).

I love how he keeps fastening and unfastening his suits’ buttons, the ‘buttoning etiquette’ is not unknown to him and that’s a fact. If you’re too young to know about such etiquette, let me quote this from Wikipedia (it’s something that sooner or later you boys will need to know):

Single-breasted suit coats may be either fastened or unfastened. In two-button suits the bottom button is traditionally left unfastened except with certain unusual cuts of jacket.

When fastening a three-button suit, the middle button is fastened, and the top one sometimes, but the bottom is traditionally not designed to be (although in the past some jackets were cut so that it could be fastened without distorting the drape, this is not the case with current clothing).

With a single-breasted suit, it is proper to have the buttons unfastened while sitting down to avoid an ugly drape. A good double-breasted suit is usually able to be left buttoned, to avoid the difficulty of constantly redoing inner buttons when standing up.

Everything clear? 😉

There was a press screening of End of Watch yesterday in San Francisco and judging from Tweets and Facebook posts, reactions are pretty good. Just a few:

EntertainmentOrDie‏@kyleosbornetv #EndOfWatch is one of the most intense films I’ve seen in years. Opens Sept 21
David Mccloud II : Just saw previews for ” end of watch ” ….. Looks good
@BeauBehan: Press screening of #End of #Watch in San Francisco just concluded.Excellent #Film. True-to-form depiction of one’s life as a police officer

JessicaAtTheAs : Just got out of a private screening for End of Watch with SFPD. GREAT movie.

More to follow.

  1. LOL! Jake, The Beard, and The Slicked Back Hair all turned up together on the Letterman show. Is it just me or did the slicked back hair seem a little more “puffy” during his interview with Dave? It was interesting that they chatted so much about Bear Grylls and the Iceland adventure, but I had expected more about End of Watch. I suppose since it was Letterman’s “fault” that Jake ended up on a glacier in Iceland, that was the logical thing to talk about? The clip they showed from End of Watch seemed quite tame, almost misleading about how intense and violent the movie really is. I suppose it was suitable for the typical Late Show viewer. His comments about If There Is I Haven’t Found it Yet were interesting, too. Someone having a coughing fit in the front row – that must be quite distracting to an actor while they are trying to deliver lines. Just another difference between live theater and making a movie.

    • Hey Susan, apologies for my late reply. Yes, I was expecting more about End of Watch too and I agree that the clip they showed didn’t catch the intensity of the movie at all. One would think that at that time of the night people watching TV weren’t the impressionable kind.

Definitely a different thing being on stage, I love it that Jake loves it.

  2. Hi, GC! These are exciting times. It’s hard to keep up. So many EoW tweets. I wish the playgoers would tweet more, but it is a small theater. Makes for a good in person experience, but leaves the rest of us wanting to know more!

  3. Hey GC,

I saw the interview, someone mentioned he had a tattoo near his neck I didn’t see it in the stills but when I saw the interview I could just make out a tattoo by his right collar bone. Just peeking out from underneath his shirt.

They talked about his appearance on Bear’s “Man VS Wild” and the play and EOW (with a clip)

I’m not sure why he brought up his Man VS Wild thing, that was a year and a half ago.

    • Hi Linda, yes it was a long time ago but Jake wasn’t given many opportunities to talk about it so I guess since it was all Dave’s fault… 🙂 He has three fake tattoos for his role in the play.

  4. I’m glad they were talking about Man vs Wild. At last. Jake was not invited to any show since then! And had no opportunity really to talk about it. It was worth to hear! I like his look on the show and reddish colours of his beard on the pictures. David Letterman Show is finally on youtube, so I could watch it at last. I enjoyed it a lot!
I had a laugh from “coughing lady story” too. So guys stay healthy for the play, unless you want Jake to water you from a stage tank. Though I know, some of you are able to fake it, to have that opportunity! 🙂

    • The coughing lady story was hysterical. And no, I wouldn’t fake a coughing fit LOL I’m glad you saw the show and after not so long. What would we be doing now if there were no internet?

      • Hahaha! Life without internet? I would have missed all the fun I have since two years “knowing” Jake and since almost 1 year on Twitter! And great brotherhood with you guys, Gyllenhaalics! Can’t imagine!
